Green IT - taking responsibility

As part of our PC component partner selection process, we focus on environmentally friendly materials and technologies. Both the efficient use of energy and the protection of valuable resources are matters that are particularly close to the heart of our business. Therefore, this approach also runs into our own research and development work as well.

How we take responsibility

Sustainability starts with us and we ensure that we adhere to the strict compliance of EU regulations Eup, WEEE and RoHS. We conduct regular source inspections of our suppliers and manufacturing facilities to ensure that everything is consistent with the principles and requirements of JET Computer. Even during the product development and planning of all production processes, we pay close attention to the efficient use of energy, reduced material usage and minimising the environment-polluting emissions of our products, right down to the transportation and packaging.

Environmentally friendly transportation

The optimisation of the entire product lifecycle, as well as our innovative supply chain management, helps to ensure we always use environmentally friendly transportation. For instance, airfreight transport is deliberately avoided due to its impact on the environment. Furthermore, we use intelligent bundling of goods traffic from the Far East as another part of our ecologically sensible business practice.

Reduction of packaging waste

Due to our large-scale integration into the value chain, we have a direct influence on the packaging of all products. This means that on request from assemblers, we can directly deliver final products where the packaging is completely omitted.

WEEE & RoHS // Registration at EAR

With the introduction of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), the two European Directives 2002/95/EC (RoHS - Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) and 2002/96/EC (WEEE - Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) were implemented into European-wide law in recent years.

The WEEE directive obliges manufacturers and importers to guarantee environmentally acceptable waste management of electrical and electronic equipment brought into circulation. In Germany, the EAR Foundation issued WEEE registration numbers for companies affected by this directive. In addition, all products that are suitable for private use since 24, March 2006, have to be labelled with a crossed out trash can to highlight this regulation.

In addition to the intended recovery and recycling of substances and materials from discarded goods, the use of certain toxic substances has been limited by the European Union. The RoHS directive took effect on 1 July, 2006. It restricts the use of hazardous substances like lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium VI, PBB and PBDE in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. The maximum concentrations are 0.1 per cent by weight of homogeneous material, except for cadmium. Cadmium is limited to 0.01 per cent. (§ 5 paragraph 1 sentence 1).

JET Computer Products GmbH only sells products that meet the requirements of the WEEE directive and have the required labels. In cooperation with its suppliers, JET Computer Products GmbH has implemented the RoHS directive. All products imported and put into market after 1 July, 2006 are RoHS compliant.

Our WEEE registration number is: DE43447600.

REACH

The EC Regulation 1907/2006/EC, better known as "REACH" (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) entered into force on 1 June 2007. The declared objective is to improve the level of knowledge about the dangers and risks that certain chemicals may pose to consumers and the environment. As a result, companies are expected to assume even more responsibility for the safe use of their products.

The regulation permits that within the EU only those chemical substances that are registered or listed (Candidate List) with the European Chemicals Agency may be placed on the market.

The Candidate List under Article 59 (1, 10) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 ("REACH") has been published (see the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website: echa.europa.eu/). Producers and importers of articles have a legal obligation to notify ECHA if any Substance of Very High Concern included in the Candidate List is present in their articles above the threshold of 0.1% weight by weight and if the quantity of such substance in those articles is over 1 ton per producer/importer per year.

German Packing Regulations (VerpackV)

The German packaging regulation is based on the European packaging directive (No. 94/62/EC, renewed by directive No. 2004/12/EC) but also contains some special regulations specific to the German market. It was renewed in 2008 and came into force on 1 January 2009.

Together with INTERSEROH, JET Computer Products GmbH fulfils their obligation to ensure the nationwide collection of sales packaging in accordance with § 6 paragraph 1 VerpackV by participation in recycling systems according to § 6 paragraph 3.
